Research Tree Planner for Anno 117: plan, save and share discoveries
Updated for Anno 117 Patch 2.1 · Please report errors.
Plan your research in Anno 117: Pax Romana
With this tool you can plan, save and share your Anno 117 research in your preferred order with your colleagues. The skill tree is one of the major new mechanics in Anno 117: Pax Romana and essential for the success of your island realm. It lets you unlock important bonuses for your production buildings, residents and military units.
How the planner works:

You can use the buttons to switch to full-screen mode, reset the zoom level, or reset the skilltree, for example. Once you have created your desired skilltree, you can copy the URL to the clipboard and share it by clicking “Save.”

Create your desired skill build. The numbering is set according to your order. You can also use the “Highlight skillsets” button to highlight discoveries of certain categories (e.g. increased attributes).
The research tree in Anno 117: Pax Romana

The research tree with its many discoveries is unlocked as soon as you Grammaticus (Latium) or a Fanum (Albion) built. For this you need the population level Plebeians (Latium) or Smiths/Mercators (Albion).
Then select a discovery to begin research. The more Knowledge you have, the faster research progresses. In my Attributes database you can display all goods, buildings and specialists that increase your Knowledge attribute. As soon as a discovery is made, neighbouring discoveries can also be researched.
Individual discoveries can also be locked by special conditions may be locked, indicated by the lock symbol. Hover over the discoveries to find out how to unlock them. You often have to unlock a certain building for this, often in a different region.
Tip: You can also pack several discoveries and one queue into the queue so that they automatically one after the other start. These then appear in the bar on the left. Even better: the order can be adjusted so you can put prioritised research at the front without having to remove the rest of the queue.
Inspiration Nodes

Deeper in the research tree, inspiration nodes must be unlocked to progress. Hover over an inspiration node to find out how to unlock it. This could be, for example, the construction of certain buildings. Once you have unlocked a node, it also serves as a starting point for further research.
The “Knowledge” attribute
You always have to generate a certain amount of Knowledge to unlock inspiration nodes. In addition, the research speed of all discoveries depends on the amount of your total knowledge. The higher your Knowledge attribute, the faster your research runs. You can increase the attribute through certain goods, building area effects or specialists.
Frequently asked questions about the research tree in Anno 117
How do I unlock the research tree in Anno 117?
You need a Grammaticus (Latium) or a Fanum (Albion). For this you have to reach the population level Plebeians (Latium) or Smiths/Mercators (Albion). Once the building is standing, you can select discoveries in the research tree.
How does research work in Anno 117?
You select a discovery and research on it begins. The more knowledge you generate, the faster it progresses. Once a discovery is complete, the neighbouring discoveries can be researched.
How do I increase my knowledge in Anno 117?
Knowledge is generated, for example, through area effects of certain buildings (e.g. Grammaticus), through goods (e.g. writing tablets for the Equites civilisation level) or through specialist items. Note: There are also some goods that lower your population's knowledge. Wine, for example, strengthens belief but lowers knowledge. In the Attributes database you can see all goods, buildings and specialists that increase knowledge.
How do inspiration nodes work in Anno 117?
These are nodes that lie deeper in the research tree. They cannot simply be researched. You must first fulfil a condition, for example build a certain building – and always generate a certain amount of knowledge. If you move the mouse over the node, you can see the condition. Once it is unlocked, you can start further research from there. Inspiration nodes therefore also unlock new areas of the research tree.
Which discoveries should I research first in Anno 117?
At the beginning, discoveries that increase knowledge or productivity and simplify supply (in the Economy tree) are worthwhile. If you play on a higher difficulty level, nodes that improve your City Watches and unlock latrines etc. are also important so that you can quickly get incidents under control (in the Civic tree).
